With all the good cheer and good food swirling around your home on Thanksgiving, it’s not uncommon to find yourself faced with varying Thanksgiving-related carpet stains the following day — from cranberry sauce to gravy to sticky apple pie.

Carpet Stain Removal: Recommended Spot Cleaners

In my last post, I shared proper spot cleaning methods for removing stains from your carpet.

If you still can’t get the spill out, go to the www.carpet-rug.org website. Look for their Spot Solver link (navigate to Residential >> Cleaning and Maintenance). There you will find a list of every conceivable thing that can possibly spot your carpet and ways to remove them. I would avoid commercial spot removers, if possible.

Oily stains can only be removed by solvents that dissolve the foreign substance from the carpet yarn. You can find familiar names such as Energine, Thuro, and Goddard’s dry-cleaning fluids. Dry cleaning fluids evaporate without leaving a ring and (more…)

So, if you’re shopping for a spot cleaner that has received a professional stamp of approval, this is your best resource.

Did You Know? You also have the compound needed to remove water-based spots right in your tap—that’s right, water! Plain water usually removes water-based spots such as soda, milk, and juice. The synthetic stain- resistant fibers will release most colors. It’s the sugar that causes spots to reappear after you’ve cleaned up the obvious spill. Sugar is sticky and attracts dirt. So you have to safely clean the sugar out of the carpet fiber.
